About Us
The Yeshiva opened its doors in ז"תשל, 1977, with 8 students with the vision to provide a solid חינוך in תורה and שמים יראת to its young תלמידים. With this firm foundation in השקפת התורה, they could then continue in search of their life’s goals. As the Yeshiva’s reputation spread throughout Europe and beyond, students began to enrol from far and wide. After only 4 years, יעקב תפרת ישיבת acquired its own premises wherein they set up a central המדרש בית, שיעור rooms and a dining room with limited kitchen facilities.
Our Growth |
As the Yeshiva grew further, students enrolled from as far as Australia, Brazil and South Africa. Dormitory facilities were desperately needed. The Yeshiva secured the use of 5 local three-story houses to be used as sleeping accommodation.
A new larger המדרש בית was created within the present building in א"תשנ in addition to a couple of extra שיעור rooms for the continuously growing ישיבה. In ג"תשס a further 2 houses were added for use as sleeping quarters. The Yeshiva now has a student body of 180 serviced by 20 רבנים, all of them recognized as being exceptionally talented in their roles in addition to their understanding of young בחורים. The buildings that house the Yeshiva are now old and dilapidated. The המדרש בית is overcrowded and the kitchen and dining facilities are in bad state of repair. The dormitory houses are located in surrounding streets, meaning that the students must to-and-fro outdoors. This is not ideal for security nor is it conducive to a settled atmosphere best suited for a Yeshiva day. In general the facilities have become increasingly unsuitable for our needs. |
Our Premises |
For Many Years we have been searching for more suitable premises. The ideal opportunity arose recently, when the locally situated Swallow Hotel went into receivership. The original asking price of £6m was greatly reduced, and following much negotiation, and with the generous assistance of friends and supporters, the building was purchased by the Yeshiva in June of last year for only £1.3m. The building is large enough to service all the needs of the Yeshiva under one roof with room for expansion if need be.
Under the guidance of the best international architects, an extensive renovation program is now underway. The bedroom floors were rundown and the utility services troublesome. They are undergoing a complete overhaul. The halls, dining and kitchen facilities will be rearranged to best suit our needs. The cost of this program is expected to be in excess of £2m.
